Angelina County weighs tax abatement leverage amid public opposition to proposed AmpZ data center

At a packed commissioners court meeting, Angelina County Judge Keith Wright told residents the county cannot impose a moratorium or block the proposed AmpZ Champion Data Center Holdings project, but is exploring conditions (noise limits, buffers, decommissioning bonds, road/fire funding) that could be attached to a future tax abatement agreement. No abatement application had been finalized, and at least two public hearings were expected before any deal.
